USA Shipping & Tariffs – What You Need to Know
Understanding USA Tariffs 🇺🇸
❓ What are tariffs?
Tariffs are taxes placed on products shipped from one country to another. They’re usually a small percentage of the item’s total value. Not all items are taxed—only those above a certain value and category.
📚 Printed Books, Journals, and Periodicals
-
Printed Books (HTS Code 4901): Generally duty-free under the Harmonized Tariff Schedule.
-
Journals and Periodicals (HTS Code 4902): Also typically duty-free. However, specific classifications may vary based on content and format.
📓 Notebooks, Diaries, and Paper Stationery (HTS Code 4820)
-
General Duty Rate: Most items under HTS Code 4820, including notebooks, diaries, and similar stationery, are duty-free under the general rate.
-
Section 301 Tariffs: Products originating from China are subject to an additional duty under Section 301 tariffs.
It's important to note that while these items are generally duty-free, they may still be subject to additional duties under trade remedy measures, such as Section 301 tariffs, depending on their country of origin.
🎯 A Quick Heads-Up
Effective May 5, 2025, the United States has imposed significant new tariffs on goods manufactured in China, including those valued under $800.
Because the majority of our products are made in China, this new tariff may now affect your Studio Artemy order if you're located in the United States.
We know this is disheartening news 💔, it's a difficult development for us, too, but we believe in being honest and transparent with you every step of the way.
🔔 Things to consider
If you're in the U.S., your parcel may now be subject to a hefty 145% tariff imposed by U.S. Customs. Yep… we know. Ouch 😵💫
Here’s how it works:
You won’t be charged upfront or at the door. Instead, U.S. Customs will send you a letter asking you to appoint a customs broker and pay any applicable duties or taxes.
If these aren’t paid in time, the parcel may be returned to us—or lost/abandoned. We won't be able to offer you a replacement or refund since customers are responsible for their orders.
A few important notes:
-
U.S. Customs says they’re screening based on country of manufacture, not just the shipping origin.
-
We don’t control these fees, nor do we collect or benefit from them—they go directly to your government.
-
These changes only affect orders shipped to the USA. Customers in other countries are not impacted.
🔄 This situation is still evolving
